TECHNOLOGY, A CURSE OR A BLESSING?

As Mr Tyson was being lowered into the grave, His wife, Mrs Tyson screamed in utter disbelief, they had sworn to live together till old age and even fantasised about leaving mother earth on the same day.

It was such a show of deep seated emotional hurts.

TY as fondly called by his wife was until his death a Clinical psychologist who was well known in his state. He was respected and loved by all and sundry. Until his death, he was an astute Jehovah witness member and due to his religious beliefs, shortly after the accident occurred, he was rushed alongside the occupants of the vehicle to the hospital but his religious beliefs forbade the practitioners from transfusing him with blood.

He later gave up the ghost at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital exactly three days after the accident occurred.

He lived a short but eventful life and was sorely missed by his family, friends and people who had contact with him one way or the other.

He was survived by his wife, aged mother, siblings and his five children.

During his lifetime, he made sure his wife didn’t have to lift a finger asides helping out with the children’s assignments and upbringing generally as he was of the opinion that the role of a mother is a full time role which should be adequately compensated for.

Exactly a month after Mr Tyson’s death, his wife lay on the couch in their sitting room sobbing silently while reminiscing on the good memories of her late husband when suddenly, the reality dawned on her. She was left to cater for five young kids without any valid source of income.

There and then, she made up her mind to be strong for her kids and vowed to do everything in her capacity to see them fly high.

She decided to start the process which will facilitate the payment of her late husband’s gratuity only to discover that she was not his next of kin. She was visibly shaken because that could only mean that she was not the rightful person to apply for the payment of the gratuity. She fell on her knees begging and pleading only to be met with lots of ‘ I am sorry madam, I wish I can help you’

She got home feeling so devastated, her husband’s younger brother was his next of kin and she had no good rapport with the family.

The family were against their brother marrying from her place because of their onerous beliefs.

Exactly two years after the death of her husband, she got to know from a reliable source that his brothers had facilitated the collection of the gratuity and she was totally unaware.

She decided to confront his family members only to be met with huge resistance and allegations that she killed her husband.

Meanwhile, prior to that time, she had taken to the streets all in a bid to ensure the survival of her kids. In the midst of all these, she had become so emaciated.

Nevertheless, she remained undaunted as long as her kids had something to eat.

One fateful day, while she was hawking her vegetables, a woman beckoned on her to come over and while she rushed down, a car ran over her and she lost consciousness.

The car driver rushed her to a nearby hospital and later left to trace her family. After several hours of tracing them, he saw a semi completed building which fitted the description of the house he was looking for. He entered the place only to find some young kids clustered together sitting down like they were expecting someone: ‘’they were expecting their mother’’.

The car driver was engulfed with so great emotions that he left the premises without saying a word.

Meanwhile, immediately after the accident occurred, while the driver was struggling to lift the fatally injured Mrs Tyson into the car, all the passers-by waited to capture the moment on their phones and gadgets even as the poor woman lay drowned in the pool of her own blood.

After a few hours at the hospital, she gave up the ghost.

In this modern day, technology seems to have milked us dry of every form of humanness in us.

We see someone in dire need of help and the first thing that comes to mind is ‘PICTURES’, ‘VIDEOS’ so as to pride ourselves as being a first hand witness totally forgetting that what goes around, comes around.

Like Mrs Tyson, imagine the lifetime of pain, penury and hardship that those kids will be subject to afterwards.

Don’t be the reason why a generation may never have a good life because at some point, their benefactor was left to die in a pool of their blood while you looked on and captured the moment instead of rendering a helping hand.

Be good to humanity.

You never can tell whose turn it will be next.
